Fusible Plug

The Betts’ brass Fusible Plug is a thermal protection device for use with a cargo tank’s pneumatic or hydraulic system.  It can be installed in emergency valves, actuators, distributors or plumbed in-line as needed.  If the fusible plug is subjected to elevated temperatures, the solder will melt and relieve line pressure to facilitate closing of the emergency and vapor recovery valves.

When mounted correctly in a properly designed pneumatic or hydraulic system, the Fusible Plug fulfills the requirements of CSA B620-20 clause 5.6.12.3(e) and US DOT 49CFR§178.345-11(b)(1)(iii)  which states, “The means by which the self-closing system is thermally activated must be located as close as practicable to the primary loading/unloading connection and must actuate the system at a temperature not over 250°F.”

Note: Do not paint the face of the fusible plug.  Replace if solder is extruding past the face of the plug.
